I’ve thought more than once about what, who is an American?<\/p>\n
My parents were immigrants, I’m American by birth, but does<\/p>\n
that make me an American?<\/p>\n
I put it to you, and I’m speaking, no, you know what I’m saying,<\/p>\n
birth is not enough and indeed is not a requirement.<\/p>\n
I’m here because someone else came here, you’re here because<\/p>\n
you came here or someone else in you’re tree came here.<\/p>\n
To be brief[I like brief], they who came were, and those who come are,<\/p>\n
seekers of freedom, be it religious, economic or Freedom writ large.<\/p>\n
The passage then at times could be, and to this day can be, deadly.<\/p>\n
I do believe that\u00a0those who would ponder the question who or<\/p>\n
what is an American should ask themselves this question,<\/p>\n
“what the fuck am I doing here anyway”?<\/p>\n
