In late September, 1938, Neville Chamberlain, then Prime Minister<\/p>\n\n\n\n
of England, journeyed to Munich and met with Adolph Hitler to discuss<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Germany’s machinations in Europe. At that meetng England and France<\/p>\n\n\n\n
agreed that Germany could annex the Sudentenland, a portion of<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Czechoslovakia, in exchange for a promise from Hitler that he would<\/p>\n\n\n\n
cease further adventures in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chamberlain returned to London and famously waved a copy of the<\/p>\n\n\n\n
agreement, declaring that he had achieved “peace in our time”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On September 1st, 1939, eleven months later, Germany invaded Poland<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and thus precipitated WW2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At that point Chamberlain forever became known as a “patsy” for his<\/p>\n\n\n\n
appeasement vis-a-vis Hitler. He resigned his post in 1940.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Islander.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
