I take exception to the removal of the statue of Robert E. Lee<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in Richmond, Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They say it is a symbol of slavery, I disagree. I see it as a symbol of the Civil <\/p>\n\n\n\n

War in which over six hundred thousand Americans died, in a nation of<\/p>\n\n\n\n

thirty-one million. You do the math.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I see it as a symbol of extraordinary bravery and monumental anguish on<\/p>\n\n\n\n

both sides, a symbol of all that was<\/em> at that time, never to be forgotten. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

May I remind you that both Washington and Jefferson were slaveholders<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and that slavery was an institution in this country long before any<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of the three mentioned above came on the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Would you change the name of Washington, DC. and take down his<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

monument or tear up The Declaration of Independence?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Islander.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
