I could say there’s a wee bit of hermit in me but I would be telling an
\nuntruth, for the fact is there’s a lot of hermit in me.
\nTo paraphrase Christ, “render unto society the things that are
\nsocietal, and to yourself the things that are yours”.
\nThere was a period in my adult life, eleven years in total, when I
\nwent without a telephone. I was not in jail, far from it, neither
\nthe corrective jail which is prison, nor the collective jail
\nwhich is society.
\nTo this day, if a phone never rang in my presence I would not
\ntake it amiss.
