lump them ay thegither;<\/p>\n<p>The Rigid Righteous is a fool,<\/p>\n<p>the Rigid Wise anither;<\/p>\n<p>The cleanest corn that e&#8217;er was dight<\/p>\n<p>May have some pyles o&#8217; caff in;<\/p>\n<p>So ne&#8217;er a fellow creature slight<\/p>\n<p>For random fit o&#8217; daffin.<\/p>\n<p>SOLOMON [ECCLESIASTES 7:16]<\/p>\n<p>O ye, wha are so guid yoursel,<\/p>\n<p>Sae pious and sae holy,<\/p>\n<p>Ye&#8217;ve nought to do but mark and tell<\/p>\n<p>Your neebors faults and folly;<\/p>\n<p>Whase life is like a weel-gaun mill,<\/p>\n<p>Supplied wi&#8217; store o&#8217; water;<\/p>\n<p>The heapit happer&#8217;s ebbing still,<\/p>\n<p>An&#8217; still the clap plays clatter!<\/p>\n<p>Hear me, ye venerable core,<\/p>\n<p>As counsel for poor mortals<\/p>\n<p>That frequent pass douce Wisdom&#8217;s door<\/p>\n<p>For glaikit Folly&#8217;s portals:<\/p>\n<p>I for their thoughtless, careless sakes<\/p>\n<p>Would here propone defences-<\/p>\n<p>Their donsie tricks, their black mistakes,<\/p>\n<p>Their failings and mischances.<\/p>\n<p>Ye see your state wi&#8217; theirs compared,<\/p>\n<p>And shudder at the niffer;<\/p>\n<p>But cast a moment&#8217;s fair regard,<\/p>\n<p>What makes the mighty differ?<\/p>\n<p>Discount what scant occasion gave;<\/p>\n<p>That purity ye pride in;<\/p>\n<p>And [what aft mair than a&#8217; the lave]<\/p>\n<p>Your better art o&#8217; hidin.<\/p>\n<p>Think, when your castigated pulse<\/p>\n<p>Gies now and then a wallop,<\/p>\n<p>What ragings must his veins convulse,<\/p>\n<p>That still eternal gallop!<\/p>\n<p>Wi&#8217; wind and tide fair i&#8217; your tail,<\/p>\n<p>Right on\u00a0 ye scud your sea-way;<\/p>\n<p>But in the teeth o&#8217; baith to sail,<\/p>\n<p>It makes an unco lee-way.<\/p>\n<p>See Social life and Glee sit down<\/p>\n<p>All joyous and unthinking,<\/p>\n<p>Till, quite transmugrify&#8217;d, they&#8217;re grown<\/p>\n<p>Debauchery and Drinking:<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217; would they stay to calculate,<\/p>\n<p>Th&#8217; eternal consequences,<\/p>\n<p>Or- your more dreaded hell to state-<\/p>\n<p>Damnation of expenses!<\/p>\n<p>Ye high, exalted, virtuous dames,<\/p>\n<p>Tied up in godly laces,<\/p>\n<p>Before ye gie poor Frailty names,<\/p>\n<p>Suppose a change o&#8217;
