Today I decided to wear a pair of boots
\nI’ve had for some time. I had originally
\nfound them in a garbage can in my neighborhood.
\nSurprisingly, they were new but heavily
\nencrusted with concrete.
\nSomeone had perhaps poured a concrete slab,
\nhad purchased the boots solely for the occasion,
\nand then discarded them.
\nI’ve yet to figure out if it’s the Scot in me,
\nor the Jew, or the Armenian, or the Recycler,
\nor the guy that doesn’t throw it away
\nif it’s not broken, or the poor man,
\nmaybe all of the above.
\nAnyway I restored the boots and have
\nworn them on and off these many years,
\nthey’re steel-toed by the way.
\nI inspected them closely before putting them on
\nas down my way they can become a habitat.
\nA friend of mine once donned his boots,
\nfelt a tingling sensation, removed the offending boot,
\nshook it and out fell a fucking scorpion! Ha,ha!
\nSpecifically what brought me to pen was
\nthe label information. the steel toes were
\nmanufactured in America, the product made
\nin China, and that, many years ago.
\nMy first thought was “damn, there has
\nto be a moral here” and there is, but you
\ncan make that case, I’m taking a different tack.
\nA while back, America sold its scrap steel to Japan
\nonly to have it returned in the form of shot
\nand shell at Pearl Harbor. Shall we remember
\nPearl Harbor?
\nApparently not satisfied with being fucked once,
\nAmerica has now sent its entire nuts and bolts
\nindustry to China, What the fuck!
\nThere’s that old saying “fuck me once, your fault,
\nfuck me twice, my fault.”
\nWhat is it?, I just can’t help thinking
\nnobody gives a shit.
