“This is what you shall do: love the earth
\nand the sun and the animals, despise riches,
\ngive alms to everyone that asks, stand up
\nfor the stupid and crazy, devote your income
\nand labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not
\nconcerning God, have patience and indulgence
\ntoward the people, take off your hat to
\nnothing known or unknown or to any man
\nor number of men, go freely with powerful
\nuneducated persons and with the young and
\nwith the mothers of families, read these
\nleaves in the open air every season of
\nevery year of your life, re-examine all you
\nhave been told at school or church or in
\nany book, dismiss whatever insults your own
\nsoul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem
\nand have the richest fluency not only in its
\nwords but in the silent lines of its lips
\nand face and between the lashes of your eyes
\nand in every motion and joint of your body.”
\n Walt Whitman.
