If a Martian landed on our shores at this time of year and decided to watch television to get a feel for us, what would he witness? For one thing, he’d never fathom that Christmas meant the birth of Christ, or that Holidays meant Holy Days. He would see St. Nicholas portrayed as a jolly fat man, wearing a funny red hat and clothing trimmed in white, uttering moronic Ho,Ho’s! He would see hordes of people run amok, damn near trampling each other in stores, in a frenzy of spending. So much tor TV. If he walked the cold streets he would see people begging for alms and sleeping on cardboard, while others passed with no care, no concern.
