A few years back I made the acquaintance of a carpenter, no, not that carpenter, indeed I came to know his wife and
children a wee bit.
One day in conversation he made this remark, “women, you can’t
live with them and you can’t shoot them”, which caught my
fancy as I had never heard it expressed that way before.
His wife, a lovely woman, was kind of like an Earth Mother,
I thought.
There is a difference, no doubt, not in their capabilities,
far from it, they can man the helm, man a winch, hoist a
sail and sheet it home as well as any man.
No, it’s not that, it’s their uncanny ability to stick it
up a man’s nose that brings me back to the carpenter.
