War is Hell

“I am sick and tired of war. Its glory is all moonshine.
It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard
the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry out for blood,
for vengeance, for desolation. War is Hell.”
William Tecumseh Sherman.

The ruler of this country[so he thinks] has twice in less than
two years threatened another nation with death and destruction.
I say “ruler” as opposed to the title that has been bestowed
upon him by this nation because in my opinion he is not worthy
of that distinction.
They say his words are cheap. I say that may be true; but more
to the point I say his very essence is cheap.
And when I say “cheap”, I mean “Contemptible because of lack
of any fine, lofty, or redeeming qualities”, as defined by Webster’s.
And when I say “essence”, I mean “The permanent as contrasted
with the accidental element of being”, as defined by Webster’s.
