Today a friend of mine called me a dumbshit for enlisting in the armed
forces that many years ago. I said, “yes, your right”, I did not hesitate,
for over the years I have come to the same conclusion. I also said “but
I was not the only dumbshit”, ha,ha! So, what is a dumbshit?
In my case and in so many other cases it was, and still is, a young person
fresh out of high school having learned nothing of value, value in the sense
that one could enter society and make a living. Casting about for a solution,
I wound up enlisting.
In large measure the dilemma I faced then and which so many young people
then and to this day are confronted with allows war to be engaged in
endlessly, for those factions that encourage war, demand war, promulgate
war for their own benefit are not the ones that have to fight and die in it.
