Tom Paine said, “Never to invest any individual
with extraordinary power, for beside his being tempted
to misuse it, it will excite contention and commotion
in the nation for the office. Secondly, never to invest
power long in the hands of any number of individuals.
The inconvenience that may be supposed to accompany
frequent changes are less to be feared than the danger
that arises from long continuance”.
The fact that we have Senators and Representatives
holding life positions in Congress is a fundamental
flaw in our Democracy, who , pray tell, can honestly
argue that?
May I remind you that George Washington
expressed a desire to serve but one term,
acquiescing to a second term only
out of a sense of duty.
