Wrote this a few years ago when I first contemplated
creating a blog.
“Once in awhile my wife and I have the following
argument, she contends that Americans are gun
happy and I offer rebuttal.
She is a Brit, so you can see where she’s coming
from, I, as an American, like to toss in the fact
that the Colonists experience with England
started the whole idea of gun-up.
Yesterday on telly we heard that Americans
are buying more guns than ever.
That got her going of course, nothing new
there but it sparked this thought in me.
The success of the Colonists in large measure
was the fact that as a population they were
well armed, not only with weapons but more
important with resolve.
Is it possible that many Americans sense
a second revolution? When you think about
it, this Democracy is only about two hundred
and thirty-eight years old or something like that.
Americans have the guns no doubt, question is
do they have the resolve? Not yet I think.
I suggest they read Tom Paine as they
mull things over.”
