Norfolk Island Pine

If you live down Australia way you might recognize it, if you live

in southern Florida you might recognize it.

I have two on property and at the moment they are seeding.

I track the odd seed into the house occasionally. Today I picked

up a seed and stepped outside to cast it away.

It was close to noon and I was standing on white concrete in

the shade of the eaves. As I looked down on the seed between

my fingers it being thumbs width, heart shaped and a small

delicate  comma shaped, size of an eyelash, appendage sprouting

from one end, I saw something the sight of which and the

thought of which led me to pen.

The seed had a membranous look and feel. The side I viewed

was in the same shade I stood in, however the other side was

bombarded from below by intense sunlight reflecting at an

extremely acute angle off the cement. Shades of Madam Curie.

That was the sight, but this is the thought.

I did not have a seed in my hand though that is what it is called.

I had life in my hand, there can be no doubt.             Islander
