Have you ever crowded, ninety strong, aboard
a thirty foot, questionable, sailboat and
embarked on a seavoyage upon the Atlantic Ocean,
also known as “The Widowmaker”, from Haiti to
the mainland of America, a distance of
approximately seven hundred miles?
Standing room only for days and nights on end,
men, women, and children, unwilling to discharge
their collective feces overboard, knowing full
well that sharks would follow them if they did,
and also knowing that these creaky boats
could easily founder, and many have.
My guess is that you have not, nor have I,
but who can deny the human spirit?,
who would deny these people their quest
for a better life?
