Music is nothing more than man’s thought in another form,
we all know that.
That said and understood, let me ask you, “have you ever
heard a man describe his knowing, coming death in
musical terms?” If not, I suggest you find that quiet space
and listen to Peter Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony.
Pay particular attention to the last movement. I consider
it a codicil in many respects when the composer became aware
of his soon to come demise.
It is a musical description of how he sees, feels, thinks
as life slips away, indeed you hear his last breath,
you hear his heart stop.
He died nine days after the initial performance which
he conducted.
