Boots

Today I decided to wear a pair of boots
I’ve had for some time. I had originally
found them in a garbage can in my neighborhood.
Surprisingly, they were new but heavily
encrusted with concrete.
Someone had perhaps poured a concrete slab,
had purchased the boots solely for the occasion,
and then discarded them.
I’ve yet to figure out if it’s the Scot in me,
or the Jew, or the Armenian, or the Recycler,
or the guy that doesn’t throw it away
if it’s not broken, or the poor man,
maybe all of the above.
Anyway I restored the boots and have
worn them on and off these many years,
they’re steel-toed by the way.
I inspected them closely before putting them on
as down my way they can become a habitat.
A friend of mine once donned his boots,
felt a tingling sensation, removed the offending boot,
shook it and out fell a fucking scorpion! Ha,ha!
Specifically what brought me to pen was
the label information. the steel toes were
manufactured in America, the product made
in China, and that, many years ago.
My first thought was “damn, there has
to be a moral here” and there is, but you
can make that case, I’m taking a different tack.
A while back, America sold its scrap steel to Japan
only to have it returned in the form of shot
and shell at Pearl Harbor. Shall we remember
Pearl Harbor?
Apparently not satisfied with being fucked once,
America has now sent its entire nuts and bolts
industry to China, What the fuck!
There’s that old saying “fuck me once, your fault,
fuck me twice, my fault.”
What is it?, I just can’t help thinking
nobody gives a shit.
Islander.
