On guns

The power of a gun to settle a dispute cannot be denied,

certainly when it comes to the acute  dispute

[within the larger dispute] of  whether the person on

the receiving  end lives or dies.

For the most part I do not think I  want to be in that

situation, that is to say of holding the gun or

being confronted with it.

Yet survival is not bred into us, it is inherent, and I daresay

a policeman in particular would be extremely aware of it.
