It is one thing to receive a patent on a tool which
a man can do with or without. It is quite another
thing to receive a patent on a life-saving drug
which one cannot do without.
Yet pharmaceutical companies are routinely
given exclusive domain including pricing over
such drugs. Their argument that costly research
on their part warrants such treatment does not
ring true, as quite often they simply buy out
some independent endeavor.
Even if in the rare case where there is considerable
expense on their part in bringing a drug to market,
how do they justify outrageous profit against the horrendous
pain, suffering and often death of people who
